Welcome to the website of the Mid-Missouri Chapter of Trout Unlimited, located in Columbia, Missouri

Trout were introduced to Missouri in the 1880s, and over recent decades the trout fishing in Missouri has greatly improved.  Today, trout are one of our state's most popular gamefish. You can pursue trout here in many different settings, including several parks with large spring creeks, a famous tailwater fishery, and 120 miles of beautiful coldwater streams managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation. In the winter, you can even fish for trout in some specially stocked lakes near urban areas. When it comes to providing a wide variety of trout fishing opportunities, Missouri is a state second to none.

While most of our trout are hatchery raised, some are stream-bred wild trout.  These fish are of particular interest to anglers for a number of reasons.  Unfortunately, in order to survive and successfully reproduce in the wild, trout need cold, unpolluted water and very good habitat.  Good trout streams are very rare, and their quality can easily be drastically diminished by a number of factors.  Wild trout therefore need friends.

We hope our website will help you to better appreciate our favorite gamefish, and we invite you to join us in supporting coldwater conservation in Missouri.  To learn more about how trout are managed in our state by the Missouri Department of Conservation, be sure to see A Plan For Missouri Trout Fishing.
